GLOSSARY
Now let’s read the text about Halloween.
Halloween is a celebration originated from Ireland, which takes place on the night of October 31st. It is most practiced in the United States and Canada. Children wear (1) costumes and go to people's homes saying (2)"Trick or treat!" to ask for (3) candy (sweets in the UK) and people give it to them.
In addition to trick-or-treating, there are other activities connected with Halloween:
Making (4) Jack-o-lanterns and place them in front of their houses.
Playing a game called apple bobbing. In this game apples are placed in water, and people must try to (5) remove the apples with only their teeth.
Telling (6) ghost stories, listening to songs about Halloween and watching horror films.
Visiting a '(7) haunted attraction'. These are places like houses, farms, or forests, which are decorated in a (8) scary way, and where actors in costumes make scenes to (9) scare the visitors.
Decorating one's house and (10) front yard with Halloween-themed symbols like (11) ghosts, (12) graves, and black and orange objects.
For Christians, Halloween is the (12) eve of All Saints Day
